The Ministry of Local Government has intensified efforts to improve service delivery across Uganda, convening a high-level meeting of key government administrators aimed at strengthening accountability and efficiency.
The meeting brought together Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) and Town Clerks from cities and municipalities nationwide, focusing on ensuring that public services effectively reach citizens at all levels.
The Minister for Local Government, Rafael Magyezi, was represented by Permanent Secretary Ben Kamumanya, who delivered a firm message on discipline and responsibility among public servants.
He issued a stern warning to individuals involved in illegal garbage dumping in Kampala and other urban centers, emphasizing that offenders will be apprehended and held accountable without exception.
Kamumanya also criticized government officials who abandon their duties, stressing that negligence and misconduct will not be tolerated. Authorities are closely monitoring performance to ensure citizens receive the services they deserve.
Across Uganda, there are 135 CAOs, 10 City Town Clerks, and 31 Municipal Town Clerks, all of whom play a critical role in implementing government programs at the local level.
The meeting was also addressed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, retired Major General James Kasura Kyomukama, who reminded officials that they are key pillars of government leadership, particularly in rural communities.
He urged them to uphold integrity and professionalism in their work.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from government officials to improve service delivery, enforce discipline, and maintain order in urban areas. Authorities say the crackdown on indiscipline—both among public servants and the general public—is part of a broader strategy to ensure effective governance and cleaner, more organized cities.
